Dr. Yoon Sang Timothy Cho

Dr. Yoon Sang Timothy Cho has served as the Artistic Director of the Amadeo Philharmonic Society since its founding in 2014. He has also been the Music Director and Conductor for Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra since 2016, succeeding maestro David Gilbert. At just 25, Dr. Cho made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut with a sold-out performance of the opera Seonbi: The Noble and Wise Man, earning acclaim for the New York premiere, described as a “tremendous success” (Newdaily) and praised for his “artistry of the highest standard” and “masterful conducting technique” (Asia Today).

Dr. Cho’s career has seen him guest conduct for several prestigious orchestras, including the New York Classical Symphony Orchestra and K-Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He has frequently collaborated with the Union City Philharmonic Orchestra in the past, particularly during their annual New York Winter Festival at Carnegie Hall. His achievements also include being selected as a conducting fellow with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and serving as assistant conductor for the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to his conducting career, Dr. Cho is a passionate advocate for music education. He is a faculty member of the Children’s Orchestra Society and has been deeply involved with various youth orchestras, such as the NYC Honors Festival Symphony Orchestra, MSM Summer Orchestra, New York Classical Youth Orchestra, and California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Dr. Cho’s musical journey began in San Jose, CA, where he studied violin under Byung-Woo Kim. He later moved to New York to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Isaac Malkin. During this time, he actively performed with ensembles like the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble 212, and Ensemble du Monde. He was also invited by the renowned harpsichordist Kenneth Cooper to perform with the Berkshire Bach Society.

Dr. Cho’s versatility as a musician is evident in his collaborations with emerging producers and bands. He performed with Young the Giant and Grouplove during their East Coast tour in 2012, playing at venues such as the House of Blues, Electric Factory, Terminal 5, and 9:30 Club. He also contributed to Lawrence Trailer’s Declaration EP (2012), produced by Dave Clauss. His prominence in the music world was further highlighted in the award-winning documentary New York Scherzo (2018) by Shaan Couture.

Dr. Cho holds both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Orchestral Conducting from the Manhattan School of Music, where he was mentored by esteemed conductors, including David Gilbert, Kurt Mazur, Leonard Slatkin, and George Manahan.
